It’s been another incredible year for students at The Roots of Music. This year's performances took us from New Orleans to Curaçao, to Harvest Festival in Canada and back. Now at our new home, our own building in the Marigny, we know nothing we do would be possible without our incredible community of supporters. We invite you to join us November 10, 2018 at the New Orleans Jazz Market in celebration and support of another year of Roots programming. We are excited to have Ani DiFranco hosting this very special night, featuring New Orleans food, cocktails, and live entertainment from The Roots of Music Marching Band, Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet, and other special guests. Please join us! We believe music has the power to transform lives. The Roots of Music is nonprofit organization in New Orleans serving kids ages 9-14 from low-income households. The after-school program provides students with daily hot meals and round-trip transportation to reduce common barriers to participation. Founded in 2007 by Derrick Tabb (Rebirth Brass Band), The Roots of Music provides students with music history and theory as well as instrumental instruction and ensemble performance preparation. Roots delivers over 2,500 hours of music education and other academic tutoring, over 30,400 nutritious hot meals, 1,400 bus journeys, and supplies over 150 instruments for student use five days a week, 12 months a year. The program seeks to empower the youth of New Orleans through music education, academic support, and mentorship, while preserving and promoting the unique musical and cultural heritage of their city.
